Signs Your Exhaust System Needs Repair
A failing exhaust system rarely fails quietly. Catching the warning early is the difference between a scheduled repair and a shutdown in the middle of dinner service.
- Squealing or grinding on startup, usually worn bearings or a stretched belt
- Smoke hanging over the line and cooks propping the back door open, a sign of lost airflow between the hood and the roof
- Grease dripping down exterior walls or pooling on the roof membrane, meaning containment has failed
- A fan that hums but will not spin, typically a seized motor or a snapped belt
- Rattling hard enough to shake the ceiling grid, often an unbalanced fan wheel
- An inspection write-up for a missing, damaged, or unopenable access panel
Kitchen Guard of East Tennessee diagnoses each of these, photographs what we find, and quotes the repair before any work begins.
East Tennessee Fan Maintenance Program
With our Fan Maintenance Program at $110 per fan per month, East Tennessee operators can keep motors, belts, and bearings in top shape—with a lifetime warranty included after the first 30 days.
- Quarterly maintenance by certified East Tennessee professionals
- Motor AMP draws, cleaning, and lubrication
- Timely belt replacements (every 6 months or as needed)
- Warranty covers all critical components long-term
- If a replacement exceeds $400, you only pay the difference
Note: Most fans fall well within the $300–$400 range
What Exhaust Repairs Cost
Repair pricing is rarely published in this industry, which is why the call is one operators dread. Belt replacements and hinge kit installations sit at the small end of the scale. Access panel fabrication and installation falls in the middle, and the price depends on whether your duct run needs flat or curved panels. Motor replacement is the line item most operators worry about, and most commercial fan motors fall within the $300–$400 range, which is exactly why our Fan Maintenance Program covers it. Full upblast fan replacements and duct corrections are quoted as projects, always with photographs and an itemized scope you can hand to a general manager or a landlord without translating it.

Most belt, hinge kit, and access panel work happens on the roof or on the exterior of the system, so it can usually be completed around your service hours. Heavier work such as a motor or fan replacement is scheduled into your slowest window. We tell you up front which category your repair falls into so you can plan staffing.
Yes. Every evaluation comes with photographs and an itemized quote, which is the documentation a landlord, property manager, or general manager needs in order to approve the spend. If the repair follows a failed inspection, we document the corrected work as well.
Yes. You do not have to be a hood cleaning customer to book a repair. If we find related issues while we are on site, we show you the photographs and quote them separately rather than adding them to the invoice.
We provide photo-supported evaluations before any work begins, so you can see the worn belt, the seized motor, or the missing panel for yourself. If a component is still serviceable, we say so and leave it alone.
